Have you been here? If you have it was most likely sunny and warm. It was sunny on the inside as well as outside. The ocean could be seen while you had coffee with those loving folks inside who welcomed you to "The Cottage".
I hope all of you have a cottage in your memory. This would be a place you felt warm, welcome and loved as soon as you walked in the door.
It is a place where you found family, friends and a smile.
Travel is not always going on a plane and spending your hours trying to get in as many places as possible. Everyone should have a cottage-a place not to far you can stop and have coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon and a glass of wine, if wanted, at night.
It is a place of lazy days at the beach with family, stopping in and a last minute BBQ or spaghetti dinner. It's having children play games into the evening, catching fireflies or hide n' seek until you are made to come in for the night. It's smore's and a ice cream, cousins and even frogs and mosquitos all rolled into fond memories.

how about the third of july dinner, steaks and burgers on the barbi, plenty of beer in the cooler, as it gets dark... everyone heading to the beach for the bon-fire ... later to walk up the hill for a night-cap..
ReplyDeletepriceless.
So many memories to mention, but Maureen's wedding comes to mind. Danced and sang all night with the aunts and uncles and really bonded with family of all ages. Mul and I talked about life till the wee hours. Memories that will live on forever. "The Cottage" yes the best vacation.
ReplyDeleteSome of my earliest memories of "The Cottage" was sleeping in a pup tent with Tommy, Aunt Grace threatening to make us sleep on the kitchen floor if we "didn't keep it down". In the morning raising the flag on the flagpole and saying the "pledge of allegiance."
ReplyDeleteI recently discoverd that the flagpole became the railing to the upstairs bedroom.
I have so many memories from every one of the 40-something summers since then. The blessing is that my children also have wonderful memories of family gatherings with Grandma, the Great Aunts dozens of aunts, uncles, first cousins, second cousins...
I missed seeing Moms car parked in her spot at Grace and Mul's last summer- what will I do this summer without Grace there too? A glass of wine or a cold beer could always be found upon a visit---Uncle Mul's dry wit and Aunt Grace's fruit salad. Summer officially arrived once the cottage was opened.
ReplyDeleteThey loved us all unconditionally. They gave and gave and it's always been a treat at the cottage. The outdoor shower after the beach. The cool breeze in the back yard with the trees humming in the wind. The simple pleasure of being together...Great meals...And the beer..Thanks for the memories
